Spot Image and ASERCA (Apoyos y Servicios a la Comercializacion Agropecuaria) have signed an agreement providing for direct reception of SPOT data in Mexico. ASERCA is a decentralized agency of the Mexican federal government痴 Ministry of agriculture, livestock farming, rural development, food and fisheries (SAGARPA).
The agreement encompasses acquisition of an Easy Link to Spot receiving station (ELS), comprising a dish antenna and SPOT 5 Terminal, which will automate all operations from data reception to production. The SPOT 5 Terminal will enable the station to use the same resources, formats and operating procedures as Spot Image, thus facilitating communications with the company痴 headquarters in Toulouse, France. The agreement also covers reception of data from the SPOT 2, SPOT 4 and SPOT 5 satellites.
Alongside the main data reception agreement, other agreements are envisaged to supply SPOT data to federal ministries and their agencies, and for the transfer of image processing technology for agricultural applications.
典his decision from the federal government through its ministry and ASERCA is a major step toward aiding Mexico痴 development that will help to improve the population痴 well-being.
